Share one fun fact about yourself: I’m obsessed with travelling – its one of my greatest passions! Last year I was fortunate enough to travel to 12 countries across Africa, Asia & Europe!
Profile Questions
Why did you choose to study engineering?: I’ve always liked solving problems. That’s originally what spurred my interest in programming in high school and pushed me towards Computer Engineering.
How do you apply your engineering degree to your current career?: I currently work in Digital Growth and ½ my role is focused on performance marketing and the other ½ is creating product strategy. Performance marketing requires you to be very data oriented & efficient in how you manage your marketing budget. With product strategy I’m developing business cases & ROI models to create a roadmap that will help grow my business. Neither function is deeply rooted in engineering – the foundations I learned in university around problem solving, using data to uncover gaps & make decisions all play a part in my daily work life.
What do you love most about your career?: I’m a problem solver. That is what drives me. I’m fortunate enough to have a global role that spans across both marketing & product. So every country that I’m responsible is unique – and every day I’m trying to solve for something. Whether it’s a product gap, revenue growth or customer retention. I’m always challenged with finding a new way to grow my business – but its something different every day!
What advice would you give to someone hoping to pursue a career in engineering?: The types of roles you’ll be able to get with an engineering degree are a lot broader than what most anticipate. I would encourage everyone to take as many work placements as you can to figure out what you’re really passionate about.
