Louise, PhD. Candidate in Environmental Engineering

Recipient of the Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation Claudette MacKay-Lassonde PhD Scholarship

 

Having spent 20 years as an aerospace engineer with the Canadian Forces, Louise has made considerable contributions during her career as a registered professional engineer. She is currently an environmental engineering PhD candidate at the Royal Military College in Kingston, where her research focus is on estimating the bioaccessibility of soil contaminants for applications in risk assessment. She was awarded the $15,000 Claudette MacKay-Lassonde scholarship for being the most promising female student in a graduate engineering program at the PhD level in Canada.

Donna, Master of Engineering Candidate

Recipient of the Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation Vale Inco Limited Masters Engineering Scholarship

 

Donna completed a Bachelor of Applied Science in Geological Engineering from the University of Waterloo, and has recently been awarded the 2010 $10 000 CEMF Vale Inco Limited Masters Engineering Scholarship for the Masters Degree she will complete at Laurentian University. Donna has made significant contributions to the mining industry in her career, and is a former president of WiSE Sudbury. Donna continues to play an active role in WiSE, accepting on the group's behalf a Community Builder Award of Excellence in 2008.

Julie, Master of Engineering Science Candidate

Recipient of AMEC Master’s Scholarship in Engineering

 

Currently completing a Master of Engineering Science degree in digital signal processing and hearing science, Julie has been selected as the winner of the 2010 $10,000 AMEC Master’s Scholarship in Engineering.

Julie is a leader in the student government and has contributed to Western’s Engineering Society in a variety of positions. She is also involved in the Go Eng Girl outreach program as a peer mentor and she is “proud to have given many girls the knowledge, confidence, and opportunities required to consider engineering, and to succeed as an engineer.”

Cristina, Dean of Applied Science and Engineering

Recipient, IEEE Award for the Support of Women in the Engineering Profession

 

The first female Dean at Canada’s largest engineering school, the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering at the University of Toronto, Cristina Amon is one of Canada’s most successful and high profile engineers. A pioneer in her field, Ms. Amon continues her research in nanoscale thermal transport in semiconductors and in bio-engineered devices. Under her leadership, the faculty of Engineering at U of T has created Skule Sisters, a specialized mentorship programs, and other efforts to increase female undergraduate enrolment and engagement among current engineering students.

 

Victoria, Mechanical Engineering '07

Recipient of the Ontario Professional Engineers Foundation of Education Medal for Academic Achievement

 

Victoria received her Medal for Academic Achievement for maintaining the highest academic standing in the final year of her program. A leader among Ontario engineering students, Victoria has also been awarded the University Medal in Mechanical Engineering for attaining the highest average in third and fourth years; the Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineering (CSME) Gold Medal for the highest overall cumulative average; and The Conn-Gilbert Award for Excellence in Engineering.

Kim, Dean of Applied Science
Queen's University

First female Dean of Applied Science at Queen's

 

As the first female Dean in the faculty, Kim will continue to encourage Queen's leadership in developing multi- and interdisciplinary initiatives both within Applied Science and with other Faculties at the University. She will focus particularly in the area of bringing together technical expertise and policy know-how; having begin her career in industry, she feels that it's important to have people that are technically strong involved in policy decisions.

Kim is also Associate Director of the Advanced Regenerative Tissue Engineering Centre at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Her current research focuses on tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.

 

Frankie, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Faculty

2007 Leadership in Faculty Teaching (LIFT) Award
Recipient of a Ryerson Teaching Excellence Award

 

Frankie is celebrated as an excellent educator for her hands-on, participatory teaching style, using tools such as instructional technology and interactive multimedia. She co-developed an online multimedia module so students can work at their own pace and test their knowledge. Frankie actively promotes engineering as a career choice for women.

As a LIFT Award winner, Frankie received $20,000 over two years for continued excellence in the classroom setting.  

Susan, Professor of Civil and Enironmental Engineering
University of Waterloo

Canada Research Chair in Sustainable Pavement and Infrastructure Management
2006 Recipient of Canada's Top 40 Under 40 Award

 

Susan was selected as one of Canada's Top 40 Under 40 in 2006 out of more than 1,200 nominations for her vision and leadership, innovation and achievement, impact, growth and development strategy, and community involvement and contribution. Susan's research interests include: 

  • Incorporating Sustainability into Pavement Design, Construction, Maintenance and Management
  • Climate Change Impacts on Long Life Infrastructure
  • Life Cycle Economic Analysis in Public and Private Sector Infrastructure 
     
  • Erin, Masters Student in Civil Engineering
    The University of Western Ontario
    Recipient of the Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation Inco Limited Masters Engineering Scholarship

     

    Erin received the CEMF Master's Engineering Scholarship award based on her filmed presentation, community involvement, professional achievements and the referee reports. She officially received the award at the CCPE Annual General Meeting in Winnipeg in May 2009.

    The award is open to female Master’s students completing research in a field of study which relates to mining.
