Fun Facts About Me
Share one fun fact about yourself: Since the queen’s gambit came out, like everyone who watched it, I am obsessed with teaching
myself how to not lose terribly at chess.
The most inspiring engineer I know is ....... Because ........ ?: Chris Hadfield. When he was growing up in Southern Ontario as a kid, Canada didn’t even have an official astronaut program. He is a trailblazer. Also, all the other engineers I work with: their dedication to solving all the problems they run into daily and the ingenuity in the solutions they come up with is always inspiring to me.
Why did you choose to study engineering?: Engineering teaches you how to think about problems and how to go about solving them. You can use that structured approach and discipline to basically teach yourself anything. That’s why I picked engineering - it gives you the flexibility to work on whatever you put your mind to.
How do you apply your engineering degree to your current career?: In my current role, I analyze data to find opportunities for my plant to become more competitive. In previous roles as a process technical contact - I helped operators start-up and shutdown units safely and monitored process performance parameters closely to help ensure these units ran reliably.
What do you love most about your career?: The breadth/variety of roles I have been able to do due to my degree in engineering and the people I get to work with.
What advice would you give to someone hoping to pursue a career in engineering?: You’re going to crush it.
Try and do as many co-op terms as you can to feel out different career paths.
