The most inspiring engineer I know is ....... Because ........ ?: The late Professor Abdo H. Abdelmessih (my late husband) was my most inspiring engineer. We pursued our post-graduate engineering studies together. He was not only a brilliant scholar and mentor but also an amazing practical, hands on engineer who could do everything.
Profile Questions
Why did you choose to study engineering?: I loved mathematics and physics in high school, and was inspired by an older brother who was studying engineering when I was in high school. He was always challenging me with “fun” math questions. I also had great math and physics teachers.
How do you apply your engineering degree to your current career?: I have worked as a research engineer at GE then moved to academia and loved teaching and research. Engineering is a way of thinking and analyzing, and that is applicable to everything.
What do you love most about your career?: Interacting with young minds, teaching and mentoring my students and being able to make a lasting contribution to their education, emphasizing that they understand and love what they are studying.
What advice would you give to someone hoping to pursue a career in engineering?: To pursue a career in engineering, be sure you are passionate about it and do it.
