Fun Facts About Me
If your best friend had to describe you in 10 words or less, what would they say?:Passionate, dedicated, outgoing, positive, responsible, friendly
Share one fun fact about yourself: Piano performance and competition is something I hold really close to my heart. It has allowed me to familiarize myself with many values such as passion, integrity and humility, from sharing my passion with others through performance/teaching to being humbled by losses in competitions and realizing areas of improvement. You are most likely to find me bobbing my head, dancing or even singing to music in my free time!
What do you want to accomplish in the next 10 years?: I aspire to work in the medical field with my engineering knowledge in order to improve biomedical equipment and instrumentation. I would like to obtain a Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering and become a professional working engineer.
The most inspiring engineer I know is ....... Because ........?: Over the past summer I've been lucky enough to be employed by Philips Electronics Hong Kong Limited, where I was able to work with many people from the engineering field. My mentor in particular made the greatest impact on me; she guided me throughout my time there and taught me how to convert textbook knowledge from school to real world applications. I was able to learn how to think like an engineer because she always pushed me to think deeper into the problem and generate solutions under stressful situations. I was very inspired by her passion and work ethics, and through this experience my love for engineering grew even more.
Why did you choose your program of study?: I have always found myself asking questions like "how does this work?" since I was in elementary school, and I found my interest for sciences (in particular, biology and physics) and math at a young age. I chose Electrical Engineering because I was especially fascinated by circuits and magnets the very first time I took physics. In addition, I have always enjoyed taking on challenges and working with a team, and I believe that engineering will allow me to do so.
What has been your favourite course (in Engineering) and why?: Being only a second year student, I haven't had the chance to study more specialized courses yet. But so far I've really enjoyed the Engineering Profession and Practice course, because it allowed me to work with a team to build a functioning prototype for a real client. It helped me grasp the idea of engineering design with hands-on experience, whereas the other courses I took were more textbook-oriented.
What has been the best part of your Engineering education to date?: Working at Philips Electronics this past summer has been the best part of my Engineering education to date. Through this experience, I met many like-minded individuals, all who have the intention of making the world a better place. I learned about patent searching, prototype building/testing, and most importantly, the engineering design process as I ran my own experiments. In addition, I was able to participate in group discussion sessions and experience the dynamic range of office work and hands-on lab experiments. Working in a different country made the experience even more memorable, as I was able to be immersed in a different culture and environment.
What do you hope to do after you graduate?: I hope that my passion for making a positive change will move the world, and I especially hope to inspire the younger generation of females to pursue a career in engineering. I would also love to travel and explore relevant work experience around the world!
