Profile Questions
Why did you choose to study engineering?: It was the most efficient way to come out of university quickly with a pretty good job for someone interested in math, science, and design.
What are your best memories of your engineering education?: Participating in interesting labs and learning new things on a daily basis. My favourite course was Nuclear in 4th year (even though it was one of the hardest I took).
How do you apply your engineering degree to your current career?: I use principles of engineering to evaluate problems without getting emotionally involved or thinking of the solution first. I let the data be my guide and try to solve problems by thinking outside the box.
What do you love most about your career?: My work has a measurable impact. I can see that all of the productivity improvements that are implemented have a direct increase in productivity and reduction in waste. That translates directly into money saved and I can see my impact at work.
What advice would you give to someone hoping to pursue a career in engineering?: Know how to study. Talk to your professors (they are cool people). Don't be afraid to ask questions if you don't get something (because you won't be alone). Ask for what you want (don't just take what people offer you). Let people underestimate you and then show them how amazing you are. Avoid drama.
