Fun Facts About Me
Share one fun fact about yourself: Before pursuing engineering I wanted to be a ballerina. I even attended the National Ballet School of Canada for 3 years before giving up to concentrate on my studies.
The most inspiring engineer I know is ....... Because ........ ?: The most inspiring engineer I know is a mentor I had when I was in first year. She told me to never give up and she really helped me through all my breakdowns and made me believe I could succeed. Having someone who understands what you are going through and believes you can also achieve what they already have is a huge inspiration.
Why did you choose to study engineering?: My mother was studying Engineering in the Philippines before she moved to Canada and went into business. She always encouraged me to explore engineering since I was always interested in Technology growing up. I found that Engineering could have huge social impact and loved the idea of helping society as part of my job. It’s a job I knew would be rewarding and mentally challenging.
How do you apply your engineering degree to your current career?: Everyday I apply my degree at work whether it is communicating with clients or coming up with solutions. An engineering degree is so much more than just math or physics; in school you learn how to work in groups, deal with high pressure, and manage your time. These soft skills are just as important as the technical knowledge I gained with my degree.
What do you love most about your career?: I love that everyday I learn something new and better myself. I also love that I get to direct the product I’m working on and see my results in the real world solving real problems.
What advice would you give to someone hoping to pursue a career in engineering?: Never Give Up! Although you may feel overwhelmed or stressed out know that if you keep a
positive attitude and work hard you will succeed. Ask for help when you need it and don’t be
scared to admit you don’t know something. As long as you try your best everything will work out
in the end.
