The most inspiring engineer I know is ....... Because ........ ?: The most inspiring engineer I know is my past supervisor, Ana Luisa. I was introduced to biomedical applications of mechatronic engineering (such as developing devices to aid in rehabilitation of the upper limb) by Ana Luisa, and worked in her lab to complete my masters degree. I am inspired by her passion and skill for designing creative solutions, ability to effectively communicate complex ideas, and drive to get things done.
Profile Questions
Why did you choose to study engineering?: Growing up, I was always intrigued with how things worked, and my parents encouraged me to look into the field of engineering. I enjoyed my high school math and science courses, and wanted to be able to design things to make people’s lives better, making engineering a good fit.
How do you apply your engineering degree to your current career?: My problem solving skills and programming experience gained through my engineering degree help me in developing solutions for manufacturing plants to make pharmaceutical and food (chocolate!) products more efficiently.
What advice would you give to someone hoping to pursue a career in engineering?: Keep working hard and be willing to learn, engineering can create so many opportunities. There are a variety of options to explore, whether it be the discipline of engineering or industry (manufacturing, research, etc.) or type of work (technical design, project management, etc.). Do what you enjoy and try new things to find a good fit for yourself.
